Is Tom Hiddleston Done Playing Loki? Will Loki Return?

Now that season two of Loki has concluded, it’s safe to say that I’m shocked by how it ended. While some find it humorous, many find it melancholy, but practically everyone wants to see more of Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of Loki.

But with that season 2 finale, will Hiddleston take on the role again? It’s actually necessary to wonder now if the character will make another appearance in the MCU.

Note: There are spoilers for the Loki season 2 finale in this article.

No, Tom Hiddleston has not finished his role as Loki. Despite the fact that head writer Eric Martin claims that Loki season 2 was intended to be the series’ finale, season 3 may not happen.

Are Tom Hiddleston’s Days of Playing Loki Over?

In the second season finale of Loki, Tom Hiddleston’s mischievous god, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), O.B. (Ke Huy Quan), and Mobius (Owen Wilson) attempted to save all the timelines and stop the loom from collapsing.

With a throne and almighty power, Loki now serves his wonderful purpose and holds the multiverses together. Thus, his persona has at last discovered its calling. Thus, Loki’s MCU adventure can be concluded by Marvel if they so choose. Will they though? Very unlikely.

Hiddleston’s portrayal of Loki is well-known and adored. Despite not appearing in Thor: Love and Thunder, Loki is undoubtedly one of the most well-liked Marvel characters, and this is evident in his fan base.

Consequently, it is all but certain that Hiddleston will reprise his role as Loki, even though no formal announcement has been made as of yet. According to theories, the most likely films in which he could appear are Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: Kang Dynasty.

But today, there are doubts over Jonathan Majors’s ability to play Kang again. After all, the actor is involved in a well-known instance of domestic abuse right now. Variety claims that Kang’s future is in serious jeopardy:

“Marvel is truly f**ked with the whole Kang angle, and they haven’t had an opportunity to rewrite until very recently [because of the WGA strike]. But I don’t see a path to how they move forward with him.”

Will There Be Loki Season 3?

Loki season three hasn’t been formally revealed as of yet. Though Loki is the first MCU series to be given a second season after the conclusion of the game, fans believe it’s feasible. It’s advisable to temper expectations, though, as season 2 wasn’t intended to be a two-season series.

Eric Martin, the film’s chief writer, disclosed to CinemaBlend:

“We approached this as like two halves of a book. Season one, first half. In season two, we close the book on Loki and the TVA. Where it goes beyond that, I don’t know. I just wanted to tell a full and complete story across those two seasons.”

With everyone having a fairly happy ending and the TVA essentially rescued, it’s difficult to imagine where season 3 could go. But Loki has a lot to offer in Yggdrasil, the Norse tree of life.

It will also be interesting to see Loki confront Thor afterwards and explain whatever happened to him. Season 3 can also be utilised to establish the MCU’s future. After all, the programme probably won’t debut before 2025, even if Marvel Studios decides to renew it.

That being said, it’s more likely that season 2 will mark the end of a standalone Loki series. We just have to wait and see where Loki will appear next.

Where will Loki next be seen? Is Avengers: Kang the title?
